Who is 3 Pea Productions?

3 Pea Productions is Heather Mahler

Hi there, my name is Heather.

I’m a stay at home mom to 3 beautiful, special children (2 at home and 1 in my heart) & wife to Adam, my wonderfully supportive husband. Occasionally I take a class or two at the local community college striving eventually for a degree in nursing.

Sewing and hand crafting products run in my genes thanks to my grandmother Jan and my mom, Sandi. I grew up listening to the whir of a sewing machine, the smell of fabric and the feel of yarn running along my fingers while I learned to use a crochet needle. I used to play with a large tin of buttons loving the shiny colors, the textures and the fact that each one could be just a plain jane shirt button or have a wonderful story behind it. Looking at and using ribbon just makes me happy. Silly, I know! To this day whenever I walk into a fabric or craft store I feel like a kid in a candy store...I don’t know what to look at or buy first

I started baby wearing 11 years ago with my first born son, Addison Louis. He was born at 30 weeks with a rare form of dwarfism that required him to be hospitalized for the first 14 months of his life. Despite this and all of the tubing he was connected to, I wore him in the hospital as well as after he came home in a Snugli pack and an over-padded ring sling. He loved to be held and I felt it created a safe and relaxing environment for him to grow and heal with him so near me. (If I had only known about the Mei Tei carrier all those years ago it would have certainly made skin-to-skin so much easier with him in those first few months after birth.)

When my second son, Elijah Phillip, was born I (and other family members, as you can see from the picture) wore him from day one in a Baby Bjorn. Boy did this help me keep him close during my day to day care of Addison as well as during all of my daily errands and Dr/physical therapy appointments that we needed to go to. We didn’t even buy a stroller until well after Eli was a year old!

Sadly, our Addison lost his battle for life in December of 2003.

After a cross country move and some much needed healing time with our families, we were overjoyed with the birth of our sweet baby girl Abigail Jane in May of 2007. I received an array of hand-me-down baby wearing devices from cousin Nicole both showing me a whole new world of baby wearing as well as launching me into making my own carriers, wraps & pouches. My favorites have been the asian baby carrier and a baby wrap. With a newborn, the baby wrap enabled me to do things such as laundry-from sorting to putting away-and loading/unloading the dishwasher without Abi budging an inch from her cuddled up and sleeping position. The aspects that I love most about the ABC are the contrasting fabrics that make it so fun to wear (for both moms and dads!) and the back carry-we can carry our almost 7 year old who now weighs 45 lbs!!

Looking backward I would say that 3 Pea Productions has always had the potential to surface; it just took my own 3 special peas and some creative playtime of my own to see it in to fruition. As I see each baby carrier/wrap come to completion by my own hand, it gives me such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. I want you to know that I make each item with my own children in mind. The look, the feel and the strength of each piece is for the pleasure, comfort and the safety of you and your children. Although the ideas of the asian baby carrier and baby wrap have been around forever, I hope that you enjoy my own creative tweaks and artistic expression of fabric pairings. I encourage input, good and bad, so I can continue to learn as I make adjustments to my current offerings and as I create new and wonderful hand crafted products.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at my “productions” and for learning a little bit about where they come from.

Have a great day :)
